Wild and Woolly Video Is Closing

Wild and Woolly Video

Wild and Woolly Video will close on March 23 because of the "current state of the video industry" and owner Todd Brashear's desire to become a certified Pilates instructor, Brashear announced Monday in an email to customers and others.

The Bardstown Road video rental store closes on the 18th anniversary of its opening.

"(I)n the end, I’ve chosen what I think is best for me and my family," Brashear wrote in the email. "So my family and I thank you for all of your years of love and support and for keeping us around a lot longer than I could have ever imagined."

Wild and Woolly, one of Louisville's last standing video stores, carries new releases but specialized in difficult-to-find films.

The store will start selling its collection on Jan. 26, Brashear wrote in the email. Wild and Woolly will continue renting moves through March 15, but effective immediately no new members will be signed up.
In some ways this was an easy decision to make, as our business has been declining for several years, and while still profitable, it is no longer sustainable in a format that makes sense for the store or for me.
Of the decision to pursue a new career teaching Pilates, Brashear writes:
I am also just ready for something different. I’ve been taking Pilates classes for a couple of years due to a shoulder injury, and they’ve really helped my shoulder as well as my overall health. But I’ve also gotten deeper into studying this method of exercise, and learning about Joseph Pilates, the man who invented it.

Joseph Lord is the online managing editor for WFPL.
