Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and Education Commissioner Terry Holliday have recently warned schools about a national fake invoice scam that’s hit one Kentucky school so far.
Across the U.S., schools are receiving invoices for textbooks they didn’t order from a company called Scholastic School Supply, which is not to be confused with Scholastic Inc., a legitimate supplier of education resources, officials said. The invoices are for hundreds of dollars. The Better Business Bureau received its first complaint in August. The BBB has since received 90 complaints from schools in 27 states, including Kentucky and Indiana, according to a press release.State officials are cautioning schools to double-check invoices to avoid potential scams.
