Kentucky Seeks Applicants For Statewide Student Council

The Kentucky Department of Education is looking to fill open seats on a statewide student council that offers feedback to state education leaders.The Next-Generation Student Council is made up of 11 high school students in grades 10 through 12 from a diverse geographic area of the state, said Nancy Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Kentucky Education Department.Rodriguez said state education officials value the student feedback, and the council is meant to serve as a voice for the student body throughout the state.β€œThey are the ones in the schools and they are seeing all of these changes,” she said. The students will assist in discussions surrounding an array of topics, ranging fromCommon Core standards,teaching tactics, testing, technology and even lunch menus, Rodriguez said.The council will meet four times during the academic year.  One meeting is in person in Frankfort, Rodriguez said.  The other meetings are done virtually.Interested students can submit an application before the Aug. 29 deadline.  Go here for more information on applying.
