An Air Quality Alert is in effect Monday and Tuesday. The Air Pollution Control District predicts ozone levels will be high enough to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly and people suffering from heart or lung conditions.These are the second and third air quality alerts so far this summer. Regulators try to predict when the air won't be healthy, but so far, both of the area's ozone exceedances haven't been forecast. The first—and the city's first exceedance since 2012—was last month. The second was on Friday, when a monitor at Watson Lane recorded ozone readings of 81 ppb, and a New Albany monitor recorded 76 ppb. Both levels are unhealthy for sensitive groups.On bad air days, Louisville residents should avoid idling vehicles, share rides, and delay mowing lawns or getting gas to help improve the air quality.
