FRANKFORT — State Rep. Ben Waide was indicted Tuesday on felony charges of violating state campaign finance law.A Franklin County grand jury indicted Waide on two counts of misappropriation of campaign funds, according to a news release from the state Attorney General's Office, which is prosecuting the case. Waide, a Madisonville Republican, could face up to 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines if convicted.The attorney general's office alleges that Waide used $16,000 from a company he founded, Liberty Rehabilitation, to fund his election campaign and reimburse himself for travel expenses he did not incur.Waide, 51, is a physical therapistwho entered the state House in 2011.The indictment dovetails with an ongoing civil suit filed by Waide’s former business partners, who alleged that Waide used $30,000 of their company’s moneyto fund campaign activities.Waide’s lawyer, Hopkinsville attorney Bill Deatherage did not immediately return a call requesting comment.
