Some Louisville area residents should be prepared for slower commutes starting Tuesday morning when the Clark Memorial Bridge temporarily shuts down, a Metro Police official said. The bridge will be closed to motorists and pedestrians for about six weeks.During that time, Louisville authorities will boost forces to help transition drivers who depend on the bridge connecting downtown Louisville to Southern Indiana.Lt. Joe Seeyle, traffic unit commander for Louisville Metro Police, said more than 20 LMPD officers will be placed at high traffic corridors and intersections throughout the downtown area. The officers will modify traffic-light times and be on hand to deal with congestion issues, such as accidents and blocked intersections.“At the end of the day, I do not want to see the interstates back up anymore than they are,” Seeyle said. Here is where the officers will be.For morning rush hours:
During afternoon rush hours:
Seeyle said the officers will not be collecting overtime—they have all been taken off of their regular beats from divisions across the Metro area.Nearly 25,000 vehicles traverse the Clark Memorial each day, according to state traffic data. Seeyle said more than 125,000 travel across the Ohio River via the Kennedy Bridge and nearly 75,000 travel on the Sherman Minton, daily.
