Last year, the Louisville Visual Art Association added a second, more affordable event to their annual high-end art auction, which serves as a scholarship fundraiser the art organization conducts in conjunction with the University of Louisville's Hite Art Institute -- they put a selection of small paintings up for sale, all a uniform 8-inches-square, all selling for $100.The twist? Anonymity. The artist wouldn't be revealed to the buyer until the transaction was completed, so LVAA patrons could walk away with the deal of the century (a Billy Hertz or Chuck Swanson for a single Benjamin) or score a cool piece by a promising up-and-comer. The event proved popular, and so this year, LVAA is expanding it into a full exhibit that opens tonight at their Public gallery (131 W. Main St.) during the First Friday downtown trolley hop. Now called Art [Squared], the anonymous pieces will be on display for more than a week before they go up for sale on Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. No advance sales, holds or calling dibs - the $100 pieces will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis on March 15. But it can't hurt to check out the merchandise in advance, so you know exactly where to run when the doors are thrown open next Saturday, right? All proceeds from the Art [Squared] sale benefit scholarships for LVAA's Children's Fine Art Classes program.
