Reporter Kristina Goetz Latest Addition to Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting

Veteran reporter Kristina Goetz will be the next addition to the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, Louisville Public Media's in-depth journalism unit.Goetz is a senior reporter for The Arizona Republic in Phoenix. Her past career stops include The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Commercial Appeal in Memphis. She also worked as a research assistant and first-draft editor on a biography of Hillary Clinton by former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein. She's covered issues ranging from pill abuse to school corruption. For a crime series, she went undercover with members of the Memphis Police Department."Journalism that combines both great storytelling and a clear spotlight on public affairs has been what I've wanted to do since I was a teenager,” Goetz said in a news release on her hiring.“I've been lucky to do that for some incredible publications. Coming to a bold new project like KyCIR is an honor. And I'm glad to be part of it."Goetz grew up in Owensboro and graduated from Western Kentucky University. Louisville Public Media—which also includes WFPL News, WFPK and Classical 90.5—announced last year a challenge grant to start an investigative journalism center.  The challenge was met, and the KyCIRlaunched earlier this year.  So far, the center includes managing editor Brendan McCarthy, reporter R.G. Dunlop and data reporter Mark Schaver. In its earliest efforts, the staff has produced or contributed to reporting oncriminal justice issues in Indiana, sexual harassment allegationsin the Kentucky state capitol and more.“We are excited to add another talented journalist to our growing newsroom,” McCarthy said in a news release. “Kristina is an enterprising reporter who knows and loves Kentucky."

Joseph Lord is the online managing editor for WFPL.
