"Educating girls will change the world." That’s the message of a film to be screened at the Muhammad Ali Center Thursday.
“Girl Rising” features stories from girls around the world who struggle to compete in countries that oppress their education.Ingrid Johnson helped bring the film to Louisville. She says the United States doesn’t experience the same problems as other countries, but the film can be used to inspire participation in the community.“What we’d like to have happen is for the audience to see this film, become very inspired by it, which I know that they will, walk out of the room and know that there are ways that they can participate,” she says.Johnson says there will be representatives from several local organizations attending the free screening, like Family Scholar House and the Center for Women and Families. The movie will begin at 6 pm Thursday. The Ali Center is located at 144 North Sixth Street in downtown Louisville. To RSVP contact hpgirlrising@gmail.com or call 502-494-3465.
