Members of the Jefferson County Board of Education will hold a series of public discussions that will begin this week to connect with parents and stakeholders.
Part of the district’s strategic plan-- Vision 2015--involves more community outreach, and chairwoman Diane Porter says to meet that goal the board developed the idea of "Community Conversations" earlier this year. “I’m looking forward to this myself because it gives us an opportunity to be out in our community, to have conversations. So I’m hoping the community will embrace it,” she says. Each of the seven JCPS board members will hold two public discussions this school year. Porter will be the first board member to host an event this Tuesday with Superintendent Donna Hargens at 6 pm at Lincoln Elementary School. Porter says there’s no agenda for the discussions and the board wants to hear what’s working and what’s not. “It’s conversational because we need to listen and we need to know what our community wants to hear about and if there’s information that we need to provide then this is an opportunity for us to get that," she says.
