Indiana University officials say they want to expand the school’s online education programs to reach more students and create more revenue.
Barbara Bichelmeyer is interim chancellor of IU Southeast. She says the university already offers more than 100 online programs, but the school only serves about 5,500 students.By comparison, schools like the University of Massachusetts serve 30,000 students through online programming.Bichelmeyer says IU plans to improve its marketing of online programs of over the next year to hopefully boost enrollment.“There are targeted places where we don’t have programs online yet that we should, since we have evolved these programs out of grass roots efforts there hasn’t always been a look from the university perspective about what are our signature programs and do we have online presence there," she says.Bichelmeyer says only a couple of hundred IU students from the southeast campus take online courses and says the idea is to grow that number while continuing to provide a quality education.(Image via Shutterstock.com)
