Green Building Gallery Hosts Louisville Women in Arts Panel

Theatre artists and writers have established public platforms in recent years to fight gender disparities in their industries and advocate for women in the arts โ€” notably the League of Professional Theater Women's 50/50 in 2020 initiative and the Lilly Awards, and VIDA, the literary organization that put hard numbers behind the general feeling that male writers outnumbered women in the country's highest publishing and reviewing venues โ€” but gender issues are important across discipline lines. In its first Focus Series event, the Green Building Gallery will host a panel discussion, "Louisville Women in Art," focused on the careers of six Louisville arts professionals. The free event is Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the gallery (732 E. Market St.). Marianne Zickuhr of Preservation Louisville (and host of ART+FM's "Fleur de Arts" show) will moderate. Panelists include performance artist Lauren Argo, visual artist Alice Stone Collins (whose exhibit is currently showing at the gallery), Garner Narrative gallery owner Joyce Garner, Carnegie Center for Art and History curator Karen Gillenwater, ART+FM president and founder Sharon Scott and LEO Weekly art critic Jo Anne Triplett. They'll discuss their various career paths, gender issues in their fields and how gender identity has shaped their work. A question and answer session will follow.
