This week, a group of Jefferson County Public Schools students presented to the school board what they would include in the "next JCPS magnet" school.Slides from the presentation are at the bottom of this story. Among the ideas were smaller class sizes, diverse class makeup that not entirely based on student performance, however they also say students should earn their spot within the school. Ideas also included more "hands on" and "real world" experience. The group that presented included students that are part of Superintendent Donna Hargens' Student Advisory Council. Some of the ideas presented may have a chance to become a reality as the district has committed to becoming a District of Innovation under new state law. This would give certain schools the option to break free of some state requirements and would allow, in some instances, for alternative forms of education and education environments. What would you ideal magnet school include? Feel free to continue the conversation below.
