barbarashank2.jpg

The Louisville Metro Council Court will convene this month to schedule embattled councilwoman Barbara Shanklin’s removal trial. The city Ethics Commission recently found Shanklin guilty of violating several provisions of the city’s ethics code, including signing checks that went to a neighborhood organization she oversaw, and not fully disclosing her role in that organization. The commission recommended the council remove her from office.Council president Jim King will lead the 20-member council court which excludes Shanklin and the bi-partisan group of five lawmakers who petitionedto hold a removal trial. He says the council court will meet May 20 to decide the schedule of the trial moving forward.Shanklin's attorney, Aubrey Williams, has appealed the ethics commission’s decision in circuit court, which is separate from the council’s trial. The police department's  Public Integrity Unit is also conducting its own investigation
