The Gallery at the Brown Hotel breaks away from recent programming --traditional landscapes and equestrian art, the safe brand of Kentucky art perhaps expected by the Brown's overnight visitors -- with a contemporary show featuring a short list of exciting Louisville artists. The new show evoLOUtion (I see what you did there) takes a different approach, showcasing artists more likely to be seen in an East Market Street gallery than on a visitors' center postcard. In a release, gallery manager Talia Piccini says for this show, she wanted to focus on local artists working in a more abstract style. The goal is to attract "a new group of art lovers" to the hotel's gallery. The Brown showcases Kentucky artists every quarter in the hotel's beautiful, historic environment, but their gallery isn't exactly a hot stop on the monthly opening party circuit. evoLOUtion could change that. The show will feature photography, painting, mixed media and sculpture. Selected works from Gibbs Rounsavall, David Iacovazzi-Pau, Aron Conoway, Ashley Brossart, Keith Linton, Shawna Khalily, Chris Chappell, Ted Wathen, Thaniel Ion Lee, Jae Grady and Alexandra Roisen-Tash will be on display.evoLOUtion opens Friday with a reception at 6 p.m. The exhibit runs through March 17. Located on the first floor of the hotel, Gallery at the Brown is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
