Officials say the opening of the Big Four Bridge could be delayed further and they say they’ll know Monday when the public can access the pedestrian and bicycle pathway.
The Big Four Bridge connects downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville, Indiana. The bridge was expected to open weeks ago but delays in construction and putting the finishing touches on the project have postponed the soft opening, which will allow the public access to Louisville’s on-ramp and most of the bridge. Jeffersonville is still working on its off-ramp which won’t be open until later this year. President of the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation David Karem says the bridge could be open this week or next. “We should know Monday when we can tell the public you can come up on the bridge,” he says. Karem says contractors will be performing the final walk through soon. When the bridge opens it will have new lighting and features such as benches along the pathway that will serve the public. “Believe me this is driving me as crazy as anybody,” he says.
