Though he pushed for its approval, Kentucky’s attorney general doesn't oppose changes to a law the General Assembly passed last year to curb prescription drug abuse and place restrictions on pain clinics.Jack Conway said some of the complaints physicians have made about the bill have merit.Conway said nobody wants to prevent Kentuckians who have legitimate needs for pain medications from obtaining prescriptions.The pill mill bill may have had some unintended consequences, Conway said. He said new rules and regulations making it burdensome for doctors to write prescriptions for pain medications may need to be revised.That’s why, he says, he’s not opposed to changing the law when the General Assembly returns to session in 2013.But Conway said the legislation has been effective in curbing prescription drug abuse and shutting down illegal pain clinics.
