Confused by Medicaid Changes in Louisville? Group Sets up Meetings to Offer Answers

As Kentucky moves to a new Medicaid arraignment in the Louisville region, the publisher of the Louisville-based Medical News is organizing community meetings to help Medicaid recipients avoid confusion about the changes. For more than a decade, Passport was the exclusive managed care operator for the region. But, starting in January, the Louisville Medicaid region will be served by four managed care operators: Passport, Humana CareSource , WellCare and Coventry Cares. That difference has led Medical News publisher Ben Keeton to set up several meetings in the region to help patient understand their options.“And what we want to do is help educate the people that were on Passport about these changes, let them know that they do in fact have a choice in the plan that they are going to go on,” he said.Keeton said his group will set up town hall discussions in all 16 counties of the region to help people understand the changes.“So some counties we’re going to public libraries, some counties were going to the county extension offices and others were going to churches or community centers. And so we’re open to any partnership we just want to make sure we’re getting the message out,” he said. The first meeting begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church, 1018 S. 15th St.  in Louisville.
