Rauch's Portable Planetarium Prepared For Travel

The University of Louisville’s Rauch Planetarium is getting ready to send its portable version on the road.

Assistant Director Paula McGuffey says the igloo-shaped planetarium, which can accommodate about 35 small children, is ready for a tour of local schools.

"If it’s an elementary school, we’ve got programming specifically for each grade level to address what the teachers are needing to teach at that particular grade level.  For right now,(there's) physical science (and) astronomy, but we’re also developing environmental science programming as well as Earth science," she said.

The Owsley Brown the Second Portable Planetarium was unveiled earlier this year.

It was paid for with donations from the Brown family, the Ogle Foundation and Class Act Federal Credit Union.

McGuffey says the traveling planetarium will eventually host some public events.
