Here's what we covered in this edition of Byline:At the top - Review and recap of the Republican National Convention with WFPL's Phillip Bailey, Kentucky Public Radio's Kenny Colston, and the Courier-Journal's Jim Carroll, who was present in Tampa this week.  They discuss the speeches, including Kentuckians Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell, the Clint Eastwood appearance, and of course Mitt Romney's address.13:30 - Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad announced this week that he is re-organizing the department to create a unit focused on violent crime offenders, the VIPER unit.  Joseph Lord of the Courier-Journal talks about some the reasons and the goals of the new organizational structure.19:50 - It's a local case that has garnered national attention for the questions it raises about free speech and juvenile crimes:  Savannah Dietrich.  WFPL's Gabe Bullard runs down the latest and analyzes the case specifics, as well as the broader social implications.24:15 - This Sunday afternoon, the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky football teams will meet for the 25th time. The battle for the Governor’s Cup will be played this year at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.   U of L won last year’s game in Lexington and is a favorite to defeat the Wildcats this year.  WDRB’s Eric Crawford pays a visit to preview the game.31:30 - There is a national debate over unpasteurized, or raw milk. Those who drink it tout its nutritional benefits, but government health officials warn that consuming raw milk is not worth the risk of contracting a dangerous food-borne illness.  We hear a feature on the raw milk movement from WFPL's Rick Howlett.36:30 - WFPL's arts and humanities reporter Erin Keane sits down with new artistic director of Actors Theatre of Lousville, Les Waters.  They discuss the first production, Romeo and Juliet, which opens next week, as well as the overall arc of the season.
