Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is one of the more popular state leaders, and is frequently mentioned as a future candidate for governor or U.S. Senate.National news outlets put the Lexington Democrat on the short-list of potential challengers to the powerful Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014.For the most part, however, Grimes has tip-toed around partisan politics even at the 2012 Fancy Farm picnic, where she the only Democratic constitutional officer to address the western Kentucky event. She remains focused on her current position, but that hasn't stopped the growing speculation that she is gearing up for a bid to higher office.Grimes also talked about the dearth of women in politics, as well as voting rights issues in this year’s presidential race. The secretary of state shared her views on the rise of voter ID laws across the country and restoring felon rights here in the commonwealth.
