The southbound lanes of Interstate-65 between downtown Louisville and the Watterson Expressway will be shut down this weekend to allow for paving.Motorists who come into Louisville via the Kennedy Bridge will be rerouted on Interstate-64. The closure begins at 7:00pm this evening and continues through 5:00am Monday.It’s one of several major repair projectsunderway in the Louisville area causing traffic delays and detours.The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Andrea Clifford says officials did not originally plan to have so much work going on at once, but last year’s emergency closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge forced the postponement of the Kennedy Bridge repairs."We had to delay it a few months. Some of the work possible could have been done earlier this spring, but we would have had to try to work around Derby Festival events and the Memorial Day holiday....it did get delayed some due to the Sherman Minton Bridge closure. Paving on I-71 was definitely delayed because of that bridge closure," she said.The Kennedy Bridge deck replacement is scheduled for completion in mid-August. The project has resulted in lane reductions and ramp closures.
