Lighting Problem On Eggners Ferry Bridge Fixed

via WFPL.org archive

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a wiring problem caused the navigation lights on the newly rebuilt Eggners Ferry Bridge in western Kentucky to malfunction Sunday  night.Spokesman Keith Todd says the outage was reported by a boater and confirmed by state police.    An electrical crew tracked down the problem this morning."They started out on the bridge checking the power at each junction box.   Finally, they worked their way up the bridge and found a couple of wires that had been fused together that apparently had been blowing the main breakers on the bridge," he said.In January, a 322-foot section of the Eggners Ferry Bridge was knocked into the water when it was struck by a cargo ship traveling through the wrong channel.    The bridge was repaired just before the Memorial Day weekend.Questions about the bridge’s lighting system were raised during a Coast Guard hearing into the crash.    A final report on the incident is pending.
