Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer supports a local option sales tax within the county limits to raise additional revenue for Metro Government.A spokesperson for the mayor confirmed that Fischer wants several tax reforms, but does want a local one that could be applied to certain projects. Facing major shortfalls in the city budget, Fischer has warned about painful cuts but told WFPL "there’s no appetite for increasing taxes" when asked about raising revenue.Five years ago, voters rejected a tax referendum to pay for an expansion of the Louisville Free Public Library system by a resounding 2-to-1 margin."We have as much of a thumping as occurred in this election," former Mayor Jerry Abramson said at the time.
