The Kentucky Division of Water has compiled its annual reportof public drinking water systems throughout the state.The federal Safe Drinking Water Act requires Kentucky to compile an annual list of all the violations incurred by the state’s 461 public water systems. This year’s report shows violations dropped by 257 from the previous year.“We are very reassured that usually these violations regard monitoring violations, or reporting violations, rather, rather than having water content problems,” said Division of Water spokeswoman Allison Fleck. “Maybe they missed a date for making a report. So that’s very reassuring when it comes to the actual safety of the drinking water.”The water systems test the public water on a regular basis for contaminants like bacteria, pesticides and inorganic chemicals. Fleck says the Division of Water works with all the public water systems, especially those that are strapped for funding.
