Union Rags surged past Paynter in the stretch to capture the 144th Belmont Stakes today in New York.It was Union Rags' first race since a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.The Bob Baffert-trained Paynter nearly led wire-to-wire in the mile-and-a-half race but could not hold off Union Rags, with John Velazquez aboard, at the finish.Atigun was the third-place finisher.
