A new app is being developed by a local entrepreneur that could act as a national model for providing relevant public data to users. The “Your Mapper” app is expected to be available soon.Michael Schnuerle began a relationship with the city a while ago. He runs MetroMapper.org which draws public data sets like home sales, restaurant ratings and accident reports into one accessible website. Now he’s bringing that idea to your phone.“It’s really interesting. You’re at a restaurant and you might want to know what’s the health rating history of this place and so you open up the app and you go to restaurant health ratings and it’ll tell you it’s got an A now, but a month ago it had a B, and a month before that it had an A," he said. There are a few data sets from city, state and nation that are included, and there’s more to come, said Schnuerle.“There is the National Historic registry, there’s pollution sources, there’s bridge safety so if you’re driving in you car and you’re like, that bridge looks a little sketchy you can see what its rating is out of 100 percent," he said.A few select people will be testing the new app over the next few days, and Schnuerle said once bugs are worked out, it’ll be submitted to Apple. The app will be free once it’s available.
