Orchestra Musicians Reach Potential Agreement

The Louisville Orchestra musicians say they’ve reached a compromise with orchestra management with the help of Councilman Jim King.BOXCAR PR, the group representing the musician’s union, sent a release saying King has worked over the past two weeks to help pull together the compromise, which the Louisville Orchestra Musicians Association voted to accept Tuesday night.According to the release the new agreement allows for binding arbitration, a reduction to 57 orchestra members and the musicians will give up their sick and vacation days for the coming year. The orchestra has not performed in over a year and the players and management have been unable to agree to terms of a new contract. In March musicians announced a proposal, which Birman called vague and it's unclear if the nationally recognized consultant the musicians call for to oversee the arbitration will be accepted by Orchestra management.Update: The musicians and the board of directors will sign the agreement at 2 p.m. today at the Kentucky Center.
