The Louisville Fairness Campaign is joining other social justice organizations to protest a rally by a neo-Nazi group planned for Frankfort this weekend. The National Socialist Movement has obtained permits to march on the state Capitol on Saturday to rally against illegal immigration. The hate group is the largest neo-Nazi organization in the country, promoting racial separation and opposing citizenship for non-whites, Jews and gay residents.Governor Steve Beshear has denounced the Michigan-based hate group, but Fairness Campaign Director Chris Hartman says it's important that those who favor diversity stand up against the neo-Nazi message."At the Fairness Campaign we believe that we can never be silent in the face of racism," he says. "We cannot ever allow hate and prejudice to proceed unchecked. They must know that there is strong opposition to their hate and their agenda. We actually do hope that (our protest) will bring attention to the fact that there is strong opposition here in the Bluegrass state against this type of prejudice," he says.State police and other law enforcement agencies have heightened security in preparation of the rally and estimate about 200 demonstrators will be in attendance. The counter protest is expected to draw about 100 demonstrators from Fairness, the Kentucky Alliance, Standing Up for Racial Justice and W.E.N.C.H.The neo-Nazi rally and counter demonstration are planned for 3 p.m. this Saturday.
