JCPS Wraps Up Interviews for New Assistant Superintendents

Jefferson County Public Schools officials will finish interviews this week for eight new assistant superintendent positions. The assistants will work under new chief academic officer Dewey Hensley who was one of four new chiefs hired this year as part of a central office restructuring. The new assistants will be responsible for overseeing six geographic regions, each representing an equal number of schools. There will also be two assistant superintendents for curriculum and academic support.“One real initiative that they will be pushing, for example, is our use of cohorts of teachers to change what happens in schools. We are truly going to focus on collaboration in the way that cohorts of teachers in professional communities can collaborate together to truly have their finger on the pulse of the needs of kids," said Hensley. The district is considering applicants from both within and outside of JCPS, he said. All eight new hires will be receiving the same pay scale, but how much that is has yet to be determined. The new employees are likely to be in place by the end of the school year, he said.
