Vote Expected This Week on MSD Board Nominees

Mayor Greg Fischer has nominated two financial experts to the Metropolitan Sewer District Board, and the Metro Council is expected to vote on the appointments this week.Fischer nominated Daniel Arbough and Cyndi Caudill to the positions. Last week, the nominations were approved by a Metro Council Committee, and a vote by the full council is slated for Thursday.Arbough is the treasurer of Louisville Gas and Electric and Caudill is a CPA. Mayor’s spokesman Chris Poynter says both will bring much-needed financial experience to the board.“The mayor wanted people who had really deep knowledge of utilities, who had really deep knowledge of accounting best practices, and also a financial background,” he said.Poynter says both appointments should address issues raised in last year’s scathing state audit of the agency.“As we began to really dig into the audit, we discovered we really didn’t have a whole lot of financial expertise on the previous board and so the mayor wanted to change that with new appointments,” he said.If Arbough and Caudill are appointed to the board, there will still be two slots for Fischer to fill. One is vacant, and one is currently occupied by board chairman Arnold Celantano, who plans to step down once a replacement is named.
