Landmarks Ordinance Gets Second Public Hearing Tuesday

Louisville residents will have a chance to weigh in on potential changes to the city’s landmarks ordinance Tuesday. The second and final public hearing on the matter will take place at the United Auto Worker’s union hall on Fern Valley Road at 6:30 pm.The changes would require at least 101 of the 200 signatures needed to designate a building as historic to come from people who live or own property within a one-mile radius of the site or 10 percent of those residents, whichever threshold is lower. It would also give the Metro Council final say over what becomes landmark. Both supporters and opponents attended last month’s public hearing.“The last meeting being during the day you saw a lot of people like myself that represent and work in the community with different organizations and I think at this evening meeting you’re going to see many more folks that are going to come out and talk about what their experience has been working with their neighborhood groups and other folks when its been in conjunction with the landmarks commission,” said Marianne Zickuhr of Preservation Louisville.Zickuhr commends the council for hosting two public hearings on the issue.
