World War I Exhibit To Stop In Louisville

A traveling exhibition of items from World War I will make a stop in Louisville Monday. The museum, housed in a specially-equipped 18-wheeler, is visiting 75 cities to mark the 100th anniversary of the war. This is also the 75th anniversary of the Waddell and Reed mutual fund company, which is sponsoring the tour. Both of the company’s founders were World War I veterans. The museum will be at the Louisville Slugger Field parking lot from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday. Local event organizer Robert Wright says admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the National World War I Museum and a local cause."(It's) the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, which is a cemetery just outside of Fort Knox that’s privately funded off the grounds of Fort Knox. They're kind of our partner cause" he said. Wright says the museum includes dozens of artifacts, including uniforms, weapons, flags and posters.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
