The dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine is leaving the job for a position in New York.U of L announced today that Dean Edward Halperin will become chief executive officer and chancellor for health affairs of New York Medical College in Westchester County. He’ll also be provost for biomedical affairs at Touro College and University System, which includes the medical college.Halperin has been dean of the U of L medical school since November of 2006. University President James Ramsey praised Halperin for raising the standards expected of students and faculty.Halperin was also one of the key players in the unsuccessful attempt to merge U of L Hospital with Catholic Health Initiatives and other health care entities. U of L says it will name an interim dean and launch a national search for Halperin’s successor.
