It was an eventful news week for both the Louisville Orchestra and the Kentucky Opera. Friday on State of the News, WFPL's Gabe Bullard explained how and why the Kentucky Opera is hiring non-union community musicians for their production of The Merry Widow next weekend. He also reviewed the Louisville Orchestra’s offer of binding arbitration to their musicians in the midst of their protracted dispute. The orchestra has not performed all year and players and management remain at odds over the terms of a new contract.
