PSC Approves Land Swap Between LG&E, Metro Government

Louisville Gas and Electric and Metro Government are swapping parcels of land adjacent to LG&E’s Cane Run Power Plant in southwest Louisville.The Public Service Commission approved the tradetoday. LG&Ewill get more than 17 acres on the eastern side of the plant. Metro Government will get nearly seven acres on the other side of the plant, as well as $56,000 from LG&E.The land that LG&E is giving the city will allow the continuation of the Louisville Loop bike and walking trail. In its application to the PSC, LG&E said the company’s new land will be used as a buffer zone between the power plant and its neighbors. Spokeswoman Chris Whelan says there’s no restriction on what LG&E could eventually do with the land.“It is our land to own, so just as you as a homeowner could do anything you want to your land within reason, it would apply to us the same way,” she said. “Any changes we have to do go through the Commission, but it is property we own so there will be no restrictions on it other than any other normal process from the KPSC.”Right now, Whelan says the company has no plans to develop the vacant area.
