Democrats Return to Indiana House Chamber

Indiana House Democrats have ended their three-day boycott of the legislature over a contentious labor bill, but say they might not stay long enough to allow a final vote on the measure.House Democratic Leader Patrick Bauer made no mention during a floor speech of what party members might do next, but called on Republican to better educate Hoosiers about the policy."Let’s work with the people, include the people on all these important issues, especially one that’s the most radical change in decades," he said.Bauer also floated the idea of a voter referendum on the issue.Indiana Republicans are pushing a right-to-work bill that would ban contracts that require employees to pay mandatory fees for union representation. It prompted last week’s boycott by House Democrats that stalled legislative business. But as the week wore on Democrats signaled their holdout was unlikely to last in the face of hefty fines Republicans imposed after a five-week walkout last year over the same issue.(Reporting for this story also came from the Associated Press)
