Sears Names 79 Stores That Will Close, None Are in Louisville Area

No Louisville-area Sears and K-Mart stores are on a preliminary list of locations the Sears Holding Corporation plans to close.Earlier this week, the company announced it would close 100 to 120 stores nationwide, but didn't say which stores will close or when. A preliminary list has now been released naming 79 stores. There are three in Kentucky and two in Indiana, but none of them are in the Louisville area.So far, the large Sears stores in Oxmoor Center and Jefferson Mall have been spared. While the Sears chain has suffered in recent years, a widespread closure would create unwelcome vacancies in malls and shopping centers across the country, many of which are already seeking new tenants for former Borders bookstores locations that have been empty since the company went bankrupt earlier this year.
