The Ohio River Bridges Project has been denied federal funding for a second time. The Louisville and Southern Indiana Bridges Authority applied for a $100 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to pay for the costs associated with issuing a loan for the estimated $2.9 billion project. But another local bridge did win funding under the program. The federal government pledged more than $11 million towardreplacing the Muldraugh rail bridges, which carry freight between Paducah and Louisville. The bridge also provides critical military shipments to Fort Knox.
