Only Five Remain Without Power After Downtown Electrical Fire

Louisville Gas and Electric says by noon Tuesday only five customers remained without service and its likely all power will be restored by 8 pm Tuesday evening. Some traffic signals will continue to be without power during rush hour but Louisville Metro Police will be directing traffic, said Chris Whelan, spokeswoman for LG&E.It's still unclear what caused the electrical fire that began around 7:30 this morning, she said."What we do know is that we had a primary and secondary line that failed. We're not sure which failed first but when one caught fire it caught the other one on fire," Whalen said. Those lines will be replaced and there was no futher damage to the transformer, she said."Everything is secured and safe and we hope to have everyone back online by 8:00 tonight," she said.
