Speaking on the Senate floor Monday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., accused Democrats and the White House of intentionally undermining the supercommittee to gain political points in next year's elections. The 12-member panel was charged with cutting $1.2 trillion in debt from the federal budget over ten years, but announced last week it had failed to reach a consensus before the November 23 deadline.McConnell specifically called out Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY., who was the Democrats chief spokesman, for predicting the bipartisan panel would fail to cut government spending in early November. From The Hill:
