Occupy Louisville Continues Planning Future Actions

Occupy Louisville has finished a week of events to raise awareness of its cause and demonstrators are now planning actions that take their concerns to city government, but details are being kept quiet.Around a dozen demonstrators helped kick off the final day of Seven Days of Solidarity. Each day has focused on a particular theme or issue; Saturday involved discussions around Kentucky’s coal industry.Organizer Pam Newman said there was a good turnout over the past week, where some days had around 50 participants. Movement organizers continue to plan both short and long term goals, she said.“We’re looking at some other direct actions as far as city government is concerned. Probably the first week of December we’ll be doing something that I can’t really talk too much about but it’s going to be really cool,” said Newman. While marches usually gain the most attention, the new plans involve communicating directly with local government while respecting its boundaries, she said.“We’re working in the lines of city government so they can’t tell us no. So it’s perfectly legal it’s just going to be a lot of hearing what occupants say about the issues,” Newman said.Demonstrators are also considering organizing a response to Black Friday, when most holiday shopping begins. The campaign would encourage shoppers to support local businesses, said Newman.
