Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer says the city will use social media to communicate with the public during snow storms this year.Fischer announced winter weather plans while surrounded by members of the city’s snow team. The public will now be able to follow updates on the Twitter feed @LouSnowPlow or the Metro Public Works Facebook page. The city’s response to snow was made infamous in 1994 when storms forced former Mayor Jerry Abramson to close many roadways.Since then city officials have made clear that the city and county are well protected from snowstorms. Fischer says this year’s cavalry includes 300 employees from three agencies including Public Works, Solid Waste Management and Metro Parks. The plan includes moving employees into overnight shifts instead of having them respond on-call from their homes. The city will also make an interactive snow map available online. Residents can track snow crews’ progress in their area by entering a specific address.
