Humana Foundation Supports Reopening Boys and Girls Clubs

The Humana Foundation says it will help the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana reopen three clubs that have closed, but first the organization must raise over $200,000 by the end of the year. The Salvation Army closed its four Louisville Boys and Girls Clubs earlier this year. The organization struggled with financial issues, and had even discussed a possible merger with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana. When the clubs closed, Kentuckiana began a fundraising campaign to reopen three of them. The effort has received large donations from Kroger, the Community Foundation of Louisville and Louisville Gas and Electric. Now, the Humana Foundation has offered to top off the campaign, if the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana can raise $400,000 of the $500,000 that’s needed. As of now, nearly $200,000 have been raised.Kentuckiana has already begun transporting Boys and Girls Club members from the Salvation Army’s former Portland and Parkland clubs to its Shawnee club.Kentuckiana President Jennifer Helgeson says that service will continue until a more permanent one is found.
