Today on State of the News

Segment A: We'll talk about this week's metro news—including The U.S. Education Secretary's visit to Louisville, and more negotiations between Louisville Orchestra management and musicians—with WFPL's Gabe Bullard, Erica Peterson, and Devin Katayama.Segment B: We'll speak with Todd County Standard editor Ryan Craig about his coverage of the death of 9-year-old Amythz Dye, and how she could have fallen through the cracks of the child welfare system. Then we'll speak with NPR's Howard Berkes about the investigative series we've been hearing this week, Poisoned Places: Toxic Air, Neglected Communities.Segment C: One year ago, WLKY anchor and investigative reporter John Boel received his second DUI. Boel was fired for the offense and sought help in a rehab facilitiy. After finishing the month-long program, Boel set about writing a book on his experience. The result, "On The News ... In The News" chronicles his battle with alcohol, his path to recovery and his career prior to his DUIs. We'll hear his conversation with WFPL's Gabe Bullard about his perspective on TV news and the business that surrounds it.
