Senate Rejects Paul Resolution to Block EPA Regulations

The U.S. Senate has rejected a resolution by Senator Rand Paul that would block an upcoming air pollution rule from going into effect.Paul’s measure was directed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which will put limits on power plant emissions that often blow across state lines. In a speech on the Senate floor, Paul said he thought there could be a balance between the economy and environment, but not with what he called “job-killing” regulations. The resolution was defeated 56 to 41. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell voted in favor of the resolution, but Republicans from the Northeast and Tennessee joined Democrats in voting against it.
