Beshear Widens Lead Over Williams in Latest Poll

In the race for governor of Kentucky, Democratic incumbent Steve Beshear has widened his already commadning lead over Republican David Williams to a crushing 31 point margin. The SurveyUSA was conducted in late September and shows Beshear with 57 percent to Williams with 26 percent and independent Gatewood Galbraith with 8 percent among likely voters. The poll shows 9 percent of voters still undecided.A review of previous surveys has the governor is increasing his lead over the state Senate president as Election Day approaches, ahead by 21 points in June, 24 points in July and 29 points in August.Still, with six weeks left until voters deliver their verdict, the Williams campaign spotlights the poll was conducted before a number of attack ads criticizing the governor began to air and that their candidate will continue to deliver his message. From theCourier-Journal:Williams' campaign chairman, Donald Storm, noted that not only does the poll not take into account the new ads, it came before news stories that said Beshear is claiming credit for creating jobs that don't yet exist.

“It is no secret that we've been outspent in this campaign by a governor covering up his abysmal record with a barrage of negative, misleading ads,” Storm said in a statement.

“David is going to keep fighting for his plan to eliminate the state's income taxes, enable neighborhood schools in Jefferson County, and get our state budget under control. … We won't stop taking our positive message to the people until the last minute before the polls close in November,” Storm said.
