The Louisville Metro Council Court will meet next week to decide whether to go forward with the expulsion trial against Councilwoman Judy Green, D-1, who stepped down Friday morning.Green resigned effective immediately less than a day after telling supporters she would fight against the misconduct charges. The council court is scheduled to begins the proceedings Monday at 12:30 p.m. in City Hall."After consultation with the Jefferson County Attorney, the court will consider whether or not to move forward with the removal process. Should a majority of the Metro Council Court decide to move forward, we will immediately begin the removal process," says Councilman Kelly Downard, R-16, who chairs the court.In a statement released to the media, Mayor Greg Fischer praised Green's work in District 1. In June, the mayor told WFPL he hoped everything would "work out" for the embattled city lawmaker."I appreciate Judy Green’s willingness to serve her community,” says Fischer. "I encourage the Metro Council to move swiftly to name a replacement to ensure that residents of District 1 have representation in city government."
