A chemical spill has been reported in Louisville's Rubbertown neighborhood, but officials say there's no threat to the public.American Synthetics on Campground Road reported a leak of toluene this evening. Toluene is a clear liquid that smells like paint thinner. It's used to make rubber, paints and adhesives. The spill is under control, and MetroSafe has categorized the event as a "level two" hazardous material situation. That means although toluene itself is hazardous and those cleaning up the spill should take appropriate caution, there's no danger to surrounding neighborhoods. The spill has been contained. Three employees reportedly came into contact with the spill and one was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
