Suspected tornados tore through portion of Louisville Wednesday evening, causing damage to the backside of Churchill Downs and elsewhere in the city. Torrential rains that followed left numerous streets flooded, with emergency officials conducting rescues of motorists who tried to drive over covered streets.Trees, utility poles and power lines are down in many areas, particularly in south Lousville and the Jeffersontown area. As of 11:00pm, about 6,000 LG&E customers were without power.Officials caution citizens to stay away from downed power lines. Call 589-3500 to report a downed line.Churchill Downs officials say several horse barns (right) and the dormitory at the track were damaged. There were no injuries to people or horses. Thursday's racing card has been cancelled.Louisville Metro Government officials some animals at the Metro Animal Services shelter are being moved to a higher point in the low-lying facility, but it is not being evacuated.A flash flood warning remained in effect for the Louisville area until 1:15am Thursday.(Photo of Churchill Downs damage from AP/Josh Abner)
